DIY Guide: How to Effortlessly Repair Wall Holes and Cracks

Step 1: Clean the Area

Before you start, ensure the damaged area is clean. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the surface of dust and dirt, then let it dry completely. This step ensures the filler adheres properly.

Step 2: Apply Spackle or Wall Filler

For small holes and cracks, apply the spackle with a putty knife, pressing it in to fill the damaged area completely then smoothen the surface. Wipe off any extra spackle with a cloth and let it dry, usually for 1-2 hours.

Step 3: Sand the Surface

Once the filler is dry, use medium-grit sandpaper (#80–100) to smooth the area until it is level with the wall. Then use fine-grit sandpaper (#120-220) for a polished finish. Wipe away dust with a clean cloth.

Step 4: Prime and Paint

Apply a thin layer of primer to improve paint adhesion and ensure a smooth finish. Once dry, use a brush or roller to paint the repaired area and blend it with the surrounding wall for a polished look.

Step 5: Let it Dry

Let the paint dry, then inspect the repair. If needed, apply a second coat of paint to ensure a consistent color that blends with the surrounding wall.

Final Thoughts

With these simple steps, you can repair wall holes and keep your home looking its best. It’s a cheap and easy way to maintain your property without hiring a repairman.
